Brimbank Mini Libraries: Art for Community Connection
Project type
Installation, community project, art for comunnities
Date
2021
Location
Brimbank, Melbourne
Commissioned by the Brimbank Council, JayMT & Silva painted four mini self-serve libraries designed to promote reading and book sharing within the community. Each library features a unique and vibrant design tailored to the local area: a serene pond with ducks, a geometric abstract pattern, a playful scene of children at the park, and a nature-inspired view of a lake with butterflies and other insects. These beautifully crafted mini libraries now reside in designated areas of the Brimbank community, fostering creativity, connection, and literacy. This project highlights the artists’ commitment to creating accessible art that brings joy and engagement to public spaces.
Project Execution Process:
The project began with sketches for four distinct designs, ensuring each mini library reflected Brimbank’s local identity. JayMT & Silva painted the libraries using weather-resistant paints, creating vibrant, detailed scenes. Once completed, the libraries were carefully varnished for durability and delivered to their community locations. This labor-intensive process involved attention to both artistic and functional details, culminating in a well-received installation that brought pride and creativity to the Brimbank community.
